Anna Bewersdorf began training under Andy in March 2006 without any previous martial arts experience. Participating in athletics the majority of her life she took quickly to the sport, entering several tournaments early in her career. Anna received her blue belt in the Machado BJJ system from Ryan Fiorenzi in January 2008 and was most recently promoted to purple in March of 2009 by blackbelts Ryan Fiornezi and Tyrone Gooden. As she approached her four year anniversary since stepping on the mat here’s what she has to say about Ann Arbor MMA:
“I came to this sport after college athletics, looking for a hobby to keep me in shape that was interesting and enjoyable. It changed everything, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is much more than just a sport it truly is a lifestyle. I have built a family here, of brothers and sisters that share all the hard work and dedication that goes into each training session.”
Anna began cross training in kickboxing and incorporated MMA into her training under Danny McIntire in summer 2008. She actively participates in each training camp for our competitive amateur and professional mixed martial arts team. Anna works with many area women to promote self defense and awareness for the benefits of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for women. Most notably co-instructing a monthly women’s gathering at East West Martial Arts with Sharon Schlief.
