Our Mixed Martial Arts school is located in Ann Arbor near Dexter, Chelsea, Saline, Manchester and Whitmore Lake.

Why is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) the best choice for you or your child?

Every martial art has strengths and weaknesses. For example, the secret that every Tae Kwon Do or Karate school instructor hopes you never discover is the reality that they are not prepared to defend themself in a real situation.  Please understand, I mean them no disrespect. As a 5th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do I feel more than qualified in sharing with you this fact. For self defense when you are on the ground Karate and Tae Kwon Do are almost useless. According to police statistics over 90% of all physical confrontations go to the ground.

That leaves you looking for training in Wrestling, Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The problems with wrestling are its huge requirements of fitness, coordination, and mental toughness. Wrestling is a grind. Very effective but so difficult to practice that it usually weeds out the weak instead of helping them. Judo and Japanese JuJitsu fall short in actual ground work. When Judo became popular as a sport all the focus went to throwing you opponent. While historically Japanese Jujitsu was the art of the samurai, it lost touch with actual combat decades ago. So please don't be mislead when someone tries to convince you that Japanese Ju Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are the same. If would hate for you to find that out when your life depended on it.

Are you learning how to win a medal in a tournament or the best way to protect yourself?

The winner must be Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I believe that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the most powerful martial art there is, but...... before you start training a few things to consider. Just as the sport version of every martial art has reduced its self defense effectiveness, BJJ is no different. How can you be prepared to defend yourself if you have never thrown a punch or had one thrown at you during your training. Now that is the norm at most BJJ schools.

What if..... you take the punching and kicking from Tae Kwon Do, Karate and kickboxing. Combine it with the throws and take downs of Judo and wrestling. Add the submissions and ground skills of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Incorporate cutting edge strength and conditioning methods and you have Mixed Martial Arts.

Is this dangerous and do I need to be in great shape to get started? I don't want me or my child to get hurt.

I know what you are thinking, "I could never do that cage fighting stuff. I am too old. I am too out of shape. Besides, it looks dangerous." Well it is dangerous. However, this is why we are a Martial Arts school and not a gym. Martial Arts without philosophy no different than street fighting.

Let's get real. Unlike other martial arts schools in the area, the people and testimonials you see here on our website are real. They actually train here! It's not some advertisement put together to trick you to come in. Most of our students probably look similar to you. We have beginner programs for people who feel that they are too out of shape to start. Or if you are  worried about getting hurt or embarrassing yourself, don't worry. We turn ordinary people into combat athletes.

We specialize in working with new students who have no previous experience.

Other Martial Arts Schools and Gyms in the area?

  • Lack of experience by instructors.

Some schools are started by students who only have a few years of martial arts training themselves.

  • Fight club or McDojo.

Many places are simply fight clubs where you go to fight or schools that simply show up to set number of classes and are guaranteed a belt.

  • Learning only one style is outdated and ineffective.

Every martial arts style has weaknesses. For example: Karate no grappling and Judo no striking. By combining the right martial arts you can eliminate the holes.

  • Teaching only punching and kicking.

The mental and character building that are accomplished in martial arts training is amazing. Gyms that only focus on the physical really miss the best part of the martial arts.

Our Mixed Martial Arts School

  • We offer multiple styles of training.

My personal mission and guarantee.

Martial arts has been part of my entire life.

To me, martial arts is a way to never ending personal growth and physical development. It is striving for a balance that we know is unattainable. Yet, during our journey we realize our lives are much better when work toward this unreachable goal.

My students become part of my family. During our time together we laugh, sweat, cry and sometimes bleed. I try to give those who believe they are weak, strength. Those who live in fear, courage. Those who live in stress, relief. Those who lack mental toughness, determination.

Medals, trophies and belts should only mark a moment along the journey. They should never be the final destination.

Most people come through the front door looking to learn a punch, kick, or choke. Instead, I want them to leave with a new way to look at life. Through martial arts, I want them to experience that we can:

Escape whatever negativity is holding us.
Break through whatever beliefs are limiting us.
Achieve whatever we focus on with perseverance.

Mixed Martial Arts Training

Mixed Martial Arts Classes for Adults in Ann Arbor

Our Mixed Martial Arts Training (also known as Vale Tudo, MMA, NHB and Cage Fighting) in Ann Arbor, is designed to teach students how combine the most effective aspects of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Wrestling, Dirty Boxing, Submission Wrestling, Muay Thai and Traditional Martial Arts. The Ultimate Fighting Championship has shown everyone what really works in a one on one fighting situation. It’s a fun exciting workout that never gets boring!

If you have an interest in Mixed Martial Arts, please train at a school that offers a high level of instruction while in a safe and clean environment. There are many schools claiming to be able to teach Mixed Martial Arts but you need to be very careful. You are simply doing karate without a uniform. Even worse, other schools are fight clubs that don’t teach anything. You will spend most or your time sparring, trying to learn by trial and error while getting hurt.

Our Kickboxing Classes in Ann Arbor, our designed to teach your real kickboxing. It is unfortunate that people are mislead into believing that they are learning kickboxing when they are just throwing some punches and kicks during an aerobics work out. We take the time to show you how to do things right. There is no point in throwing a large number of punches with bad form at a bag. Great for burning calories but eventually you will get hurt. With good technique you will actually hit much harder and drastically reduce your chances of injury.

Our Childrens Martial Arts Classes in Ann Arbor, are designed to develop the whole child. This means we work to develop the mind, body and spirit. In each class values are reinforced as students recite the 5 Tenets (Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit)
